We are Live! After two years of work, the New UrlTrends site is finally here. I hope you enjoy!

We ran a little late because of some unexpected issues, but those are behind us now.

March 16, 2008

AT&T had issues with one of their routers causing some of our systems to not function correctly. The packets were getting stuck in a loop causing them to time out. Because of this, our update systems were offline. As of today, AT&T has fixed the issue and our systems are now being updated again with all of the sites information. This issue first started randomly appearing around the 1st of March, but a few days ago it became consistent. Thankfully it is now resolved though.

October 12, 2007

Some sites information is not getting updated. We are looking into a reported issue where the statistics for some sites are not getting updated. After some research, one of the only consistent things is that it seems to be only effecting sites that are not being watched by any of our paying members. All of the weekly updated sites seem to be working fine. Once we identify the root cause, this bug will be immediately fixed and your sites should start being tracked on their regular dates again. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you.

October 8, 2007

Late last night our mail server crashed. We are working on this as I write this and we are trying to bring online our secondary server (which wasn't scheduled to be online for a few more weeks). Because of this issue, account notifications, registration and activation emails will not be sent. Additionally, our support system is severely crippled. Please know that we are working on this issue, and we hope to have it resolved shortly. Thank you for your understanding.

September 23, 2007

PageRank bug finally fixed. After many, many, many hours of working on this problem, everything is now back to normal. All sites should show their correct PR on the next update.

August 29, 2007

We found a bug in our support system today. For some unknown reason all dates were getting set as NULL, which translates to a ticket from "Wednesday, December 31 1969 7:00am". In short, if you added a ticket, or a response, it was sent to the bottom of the pile and never got answered. We apologize for this and are working as best as we can to answer all of the affected tickets as soon as possible.

August 21, 2007

We will be having more scheduled maintenance this evening to finalize the upgrades. This should be the final outage that we encounter in this upgrade process. Thank you everyone for your understanding.

August 20, 2007

Today we are completing the final part of our systems upgrades. We apologize if the site becomes unavailable at times.

August 19, 2007

We will be having scheduled maintenance later today. During this maintenance, our site may intermittently become unavailable.

August 19, 2007

We are now performing the scheduled maintenance and expect to be during the next 4-5 hours. We apologize if our site goes down from time-to-time. Thank you for your understanding.

June 11, 2007

Today, at about 7:45 am (PST) we hit the 3 million mark for the number of URLs that we are watching. Thank you everyone for helping us get to this point.

February 7, 2007

Alexa Ranking issues... We are currently experiencing issues with the information provided by Alexa for all sites that we are tracking. Please rest assured that we are working on it and it will be fixed as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you.

January 12, 2007

If you have recently submitted a support ticket and have not received a response, we apologize. We have been getting an enormous amount of spam since the beginning of the new year. Please be assured that we will get to it and we will respond. We apologize for any inconveniences that this may cause you.

December 16, 2006

Happy Birthday to UrlTrends! Today, we turned two years old!

September 20, 2006

We found a bug in our Support System today. If you submitted a ticket recently and did not get a response, please submit it again. Your ticket was answered, but the emails weren't properly getting sent. If you think that you may have been effected by this, just mention it in your new ticket. We apologize for this inconvenience.

August 27, 2006

We've been doing a lot of moving things around in our backend systems in preparation for our new site. If our site occasionally goes down or is really slow, we apologize.

August 19, 2006

PHP Developer Needed. If interested please see our posting on craigslist.

August 14, 2006

Today at around 2PM PST we broke the 1 million URL barrier. We are now tracking rankings on over 1 million different URLs. So what was the one millionth URL? Lets just say that it was adult in nature and had to do with robots. Odd huh!? Either way, thanks to everyone for your support. We are growing very fast thanks to your support and we look forward to the next million, and the millions beyond that.

June 24, 2006

Don't think that we are just sitting here twiddling our thumbs. Get ready for an all new UrlTrends. It's coming, and sooner than you think. ;-)

February 16, 2006

UrlTrends has now passed 500,000 sites that we are monitoring. Over the last four months, on average, we have added 100,000 new urls to our systems each month. Will we hit 1 million in July?

February 16, 2006

Today, around 4 PM PST UrlTrends will become unavailable while we perform scheduled maintenance. Upon completion of this maintenance UrlTrends will have a new database server! When we guessed on November 19th, 2005 that we would be good with the (then) new server, we were actually pretty close -- just 3 days shy of 3 months.

December 16, 2005

Happy Birthday to UrlTrends! We are now 1 year old. Our "birthday presents" will be coming soon. But are they really ours? I guess so; you'll enjoy them (hopefully) and we'll enjoy you using them.

November 30, 2005

UrlTrends' Datacenter will be conducting maintenance on one of our core routers to increase overall capacity on December 1st, 2005 around 1 AM PST. Our site may be intermittently unavailable for 15 to 30 minutes while the maintenance is performed to our users that connect through AT&T, nLayer, Level(3), or BtN. The intermittent downtime will occur due to the result of BGP sessions updating.

November 19, 2005

UrlTrends upgraded multiple systems during our recent scheduled 6 hour downtime. Among the upgrades is a new database system that should allow us to continue growing without limitation, at least for another 3 to 6 months. :-) If you notice any features of UrlTrends that is not working correctly, please report it. Thank you.

November 16, 2005

UrlTrends has now surpassed 200,000 urls that we are monitoring. In less than a month more than 100,000 urls were added to our systems. We are now averaging slightly less than 50,000 Trend Reports being viewed each week.

October 19, 2005

UrlTrends has now surpassed 100,000 urls that we are monitoring. While it took us 8 months to get to 50,000 urls in our database we were able to double the number of urls to a total of 100,000 urls that we are monitoring in only 2 months. What will be next? Us reaching 200,000 next month?

October 13, 2005

UrlTrends and Sedo have partnered. You can now view any domains search engine statistics by clicking on "Analyze the domain: domain.com" near the bottom of Sedo's domain information pages. The domains search engine rankings will pop up into a new window and display the domains Pagerank, Alexa rank, incoming links from Google, Yahoo, MSN and Alexa and any listings in DMOZ.org as well as archive.org. By using this data Sedo users will have another criteria to decide the value of a domain name. On UrlTrends' site you will see a link on all of our Trend Reports allowing you to determine if the domain name that you are currently viewing a Trend Report on is for sale on Sedo. If you are registered for a My UrlTrends account you will also have the ability to import all of the domains in your Sedo account into your My UrlTrends Watchlist to monitor the search trends for the domains in your portfolio. For an example of the page that is displayed click here: domain analysis for Sedo.com

September 29, 2005

Added the ability to see a urls keyword rankings over time and the ability to see keyword competition over time. This new feature can be accessed from our Reverse Keyword lookup Tool or our Trend Reports.

September 13, 2005

Trend Reports now display the date a website was first introduced online. It can be found in any Trend Report under the heading of "Online Since". Any new url added to our systems will display the information immediately. Urls that are already in our systems will have this information updated on the urls next update (within one month).

August 31, 2005

All urls are now being monitored weekly for all clients who are registered with MyUrlTrends and have selected the Advanced Plan or higher (e.g. any of our paid plans). It's just one of many features for our paying members that will be released over the next few months.

August 23, 2005

UrlTrends has been listed as #7 in Alexa's Movers and Shakers (in the Movers section of course). Go to Alexa Movers & Shakers for more information.

August 22, 2005

UrlTrends has hit the milestone of 50,000 URLs in our database. The last 50,000 has been great and we are looking forward to the next 50,000 and beyond. We have some more great features that we will releasing in the next 50,000.

August 14, 2005

IceRocket added to our monitoring. We now support getting link information from IceRocket. Gigablast has been removed.

August 13, 2005

Today we launched a new version of our website. The new version has hundreds of new features and modifications. The most notable are the release of two new tools, our Trend Comparison Tool and Reverse Keyword Lookup Tool. We also released a new feature called My UrlTrends. My UrlTrends is a feature that allows our users to have an interface to manage all of the domains that they are watching and more. To see exactly everything that it does, sign up for a My UrlTrends account.

August 12, 2005

Fixed a major bug in the averaging system. All averages have been reset because the bug was so large that every value it generated was off. From this point on all averages should be accurate.

July 1, 2005

UrlTrends has hit 30,000 Urls in it's database.

June 29, 2005

Today between 1 and 3 am UrlTrends hit a milestone - 50,000 Unique visitors in a single month. Everyday I become more and more amazed at the popularity of UrlTrends and that our visitors have been able to embrace it and use it to their benefit. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and all of UrlTrends' users for their patronage. Knowing that UrlTrends is effecting so many users everyday helps my motivation to enhance UrlTrends' overall offerings. Look forward to the next few tools that we've been cooking up for you. They're coming soon. In addition to the 50,000 unique visitors, we are currently on track to hit the 30,000 urls being monitored milestone within the next two days. Once again, thank you for your patronage.

June 28, 2005

Fixed a few bugs that creeped up from some recent work. These bugs caused some Trend Reports to not display the page title or the dmoz category when they existed. If one of the trend reports that you monitor was effected by these bugs they will be fixed the next time the trend report is updated.

June 18, 2005

UrlTrends has been moved to a new server... again. This should be our last move for a while. This time instead of a small VPS we are now on a beefed up server with the following specs: Dell 1850 Series Server Dual 2.8 GHz Intel Xeon Processors (800 mhz FSB, 1 MB Cache) 73 GB 10,000 RPM SCSI Hard Drive 2 GB Registered ECC DDR SDRAM Best of all, its on a 100 Mbit/sec port! So hopefully all the database errors that the vps was kicking out have been eliminated. The speed has also improved because of this, preliminary reports indicate that trend reports are generated in less than 0.4 seconds.

June 13, 2005

Fixed a few bugs with the RSS tracking of trends.

June 13, 2005

Built a news system to help with the updating of news.

June 13, 2005

Install a PageRank button to show your PageRank to your visitors with our new PageRank buttons. The buttons can be added to your website very easily using the HTML code that we provide you with. There is no complicated programming involved.

June 12, 2005

Version 1.2 of our Trend Report is now available. The biggest change is the addition of better flash charts.

June 10, 2005

Dozens of backend optimizations have been made to make UrlTrends run smoother and faster. Although it is now doing better, it may be time to move it to another server... again. Preliminary results indicate that existing trend reports are generated in 0.769 seconds and new urls are generated in 14.109 seconds. The biggest imporovement in generating Trend Reports is with existing urls. Approximately 1.576 seconds have been knocked of the generation time.

May 30, 2005

The PageRank "Grey-out" has been fixed. On May 30, 2005 between 2:00 pm and 2:30 pm Pacific Time google restored the ability for PageRank queries. So far everything appears to be exactly as it was before. All PageRank values are showing the same value that was displayed before the "Grey-Out". All sites that were updated within the 70.5 hours of Google's PageRank outage will be fixed shortly so that it appears that they did not lose their PageRank.

May 27, 2005

Google has greyed out all sites with PageRank. The PageRank "Grey-out" happened on May 27, 2005 between 3:30 pm and 4:00 pm Pacific Time. At this time we do not know when, or if, google will make the PageRank info available again. Until then, all sites that are updated will display No PageRank. Technically speaking Google is now returning a HTTP error code 403, which means "Access is Forbidden", for all PageRank checks. This could be one of three things; either they are removing the ability to check PageRank, they are simply having a service outage, or they have decided to change their secret hash for the query. If it is the later of the three, a solution will be found shortly.

May 24, 2005

UrlTrends has been migrated to a new server. The database proved to be one of the hardest challenges with the move. Exporting 1.2 GB worth of data and importing it onto another server takes a while! However, the database appears to be one of the most measurable differences with the move. On average queries to the database are executed 0.0457 seconds faster. The average query is now procesed in 0.0008 seconds. Not bad. Also, on average Trend Reports are generated in 2.345 seconds for urls that are already in our database and 14.353 seconds for new additions.

May 19, 2005

Multiple backend improvements were made. The unreliability of Teoma has been resolved.

May 17, 2005

UrlTrends now supports getting link information from AllTheWeb, AltaVista, Teoma and Gigablast. At this point the only one that may get removed would be Teoma. Teoma does not always return results like it should and is considered very unreliable.

May 7, 2005

UrlTrends is now Multi-Threaded. The same information, 3.02 seconds faster (on average).

May 4, 2005

UrlTrends now checks to see if a site has been bookmarked by its end-users through Furl and Del.icio.us. The information is viewable from any Trend Report.

May 1, 2005

RSS Feeds of all reports are now available. Although the information provided has been condensed, some of you may prefer this option to the already existing email notifications.

February 1, 2005

UrlTrends is upgraded to beta.

December 16, 2004

UrlTrends is launched in Alpha.
